The 'Padre' mill is a highly collectible lathe-turned spice mill, designed and produced exclusively for Permanent Collection by Los Angeles-based designer, Ryan Preciado. The 'Padre' mill is one of two original forms by Preciado, the result of intuitive design process that includes 'sketching' in real-time. Using sustainably salvaged scrap walnut from his studio, the mill draws inspiration from the silhouette of the archetypal cylindrical pepper mill — whose form has been considered by celebrated designers from Memphis' Ettore Sottsass to Dansk's Jens Quistgaard. This piece's elegant shape has a gradually tapered body, with a top-turning grinder, playful knobbed 'hat', and a precision ceramic mechanism that can be adjusted from the bottom. A functional, sophisticated, everyday object, this sculptural tabletop piece is a statement on its own, or paired with its companion 'Madre' mill. Put salt in one, pepper in the other, or fill it with another favorite spice!
