E.F. Davies
Edmund Davies is a studio potter based in East London whose practice revolves around the production of functional wheel-thrown pieces. After training in architecture, Davies began working in clay through a membership at Turning Earth, an open-access ceramics studio in Hoxton, London. Though still applying the rigorous attention to structure, ergonomics and elegance that architecture demands, he turned his focus to small-scale objects intended for everyday use. His work incorporates a variety of British clay bodies, sourced primarily in Staffordshire and Cornwall, often blending them to make specific colors and textures, while taking a minimal, restrained approach to glazing and palette. Davies also teaches at Hoxton Gardenware, a nonprofit that empowers and employs local youth in the production of small-batch terracotta planter pots.
