Kitchen Rug

This stunning, hand-woven rug is made by Bay Area textile artist, Claire Crews (who also happens to work as a pastry cook at Chez Panisse). Woven using undyed wool sustainably raised in the Southwest, in earthy shades of dark brown and gray, this geometrically-patterned piece was designed to live in front of the kitchen sink or cooking range—the most-used stations in the most-loved room in the house. Intended to add warmth, comfort and function to the time we spend in the kitchen, it would look equally at home as an accent rug for a bedroom or bath. With a pattern inspired by Agnes Martin and Clara Porset, as well as by natural rock formations, shadows and wind, the Kitchen Rug is thick and soft, and imbued with the water-, stain- and odor-resistant qualities of minimally-processed, lanolin-rich natural wool. As Crews put it, "I'm interested in aesthetic objects and spaces that record the habits of a body over time." Made-to-order by Crews in six to eight weeks.

Hand-made exclusively for Permanent Collection by Claire Crews in Berkeley, CA.
