Based on the shape of a favorite vintage piece in Alice Waters's kitchen, this hand-finished salad bowl is made from some of the most precious wood available: sustainable, salvaged redwood. Waters chose redwood as a material because it is exceptionally lightweight, but also very durable, and resistant to the rancid oily flavor that can develop in wood bowls after frequent use. It also reminds Alice of the beloved, ancient redwood tree that grows in her back yard in Berkeley, California.

As with all of the pieces in Alice’s Kitchen Collection, 5% of proceeds go toward supporting her non-profit organization, The Edible Schoolyard Project, whose mission is to build and share a national edible education curriculum for pre-kindergarten through high school.

Please note that the grain and coloring will vary from bowl to bowl as each is unique. Avoid using harsh detergents to clean the bowl as it risks dehydrating the wood—simply rinse and wipe out. You may also regularly condition the bowl with food-safe wood conditioner. A freshly-cut light redwood at first will darken over time, and patina with use, turning a lovely rich warm color.

Joinery Structures is a design-driven general contracting and custom woodworking firm based out of a 10,000-square-foot fully-outfitted shop located in West Oakland. Joinery Structures comprises a talented team of designers, furniture and cabinet makers, timber framers, mill operators, project managers, and all-around skilled craftspeople. The Joinery Structures team pursues work on multiple fronts, including residential remodels, ground-up construction, finish carpentry, cabinetry and furniture, as well as offering solid wood milling services to the professional building world and the general public, alike. For their team of craftspeople, no project is too big or too small.

SHIPPING AND RETURNS POLICY

Permanent Collections offers UPS Ground shipping on all U.S. domestic orders. International shipping to Canada and Europe is available via DHL and USPS.

Orders are processed one time per week, Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. All orders ship from Berkeley, CA. Availability of products is not guaranteed. If you have ordered an item that is not available or that is delayed, we will notify you via email or telephone. When your order is processed, you will receive a shipment confirmation email with the shipping tracking number. Residents of California will pay state tax on their purchase.

Expected arrival date for international orders is approximately 10-14 days from the order date. For international orders, a customs duty will be charged to you depending upon the country in which you reside and the cost of the product you have ordered. Permanent Collection is NOT responsible for payment of this duty. Please consult an online duties calculator before placing your order, as this charge could amount to a few hundred additional dollars for which you will be liable. In addition, please make sure your contact details are correct in order for the carrier to make a prompt delivery. In the case the item is not deliverable it is the customer's responsibility to pay any additional fees that occur, such as return and reshipping fees.

HOW TO RETURN

Should you wish to return an item, it must be in unused, unworn, unwashed, unaltered, and in undamaged condition and returned within 30 days of purchase. All returns must include original packaging: any boxes, hangers, garment bags, and other packaging materials.

To begin the return process, please contact us at customerservice@permanentcollection.com. We will then email you a return UPS shipping label and a return packing slip for you to mark with the reason(s) for your return. Repackage the item(s) you would like to return and place the prepaid UPS return label on the outside of the box you’ll ship back to us at:

Drop off your shipment at a UPS Store (find your nearest store at www.ups.com) or at any UPS facility.

As soon as we receive your return, we’ll let you know in an e-mail and make sure that your refund is processed within 7 days. It may take up to 14 business days from the date we process your refund for it reflect on your original form of payment.

We reserve the right to deny refunds if the merchandise returned does not meet our return policy requirements.
