The 'Madre' mill is a highly collectible, lathe-turned and intricately laminated two-toned spice mill, designed and produced exclusively for Permanent Collection by Los Angeles-based designer, Ryan Preciado. The 'Madre' mill is one of two original forms by Preciado, the result of an intuitive design process that includes 'sketching' in real-time. Using sustainably salvaged scrap walnut and red oak from his studio, the mill draws inspiration from the silhouette of the archetypal cylindrical pepper mill — whose form has been considered by celebrated designers from Memphis' Ettore Sottsass to Dansk's Jens Quistgaard. Elegantly curved in the center with a rounded turn-top that recalls a matryoshka doll, this mill's sophisticated, yet whimsical, detailing transforms an everyday object into a sculptural tabletop statement. Beautiful on its own, or paired with its companion piece, the 'Padre' mill. Put salt in one, pepper in the other, or fill it with another favorite spice! A precision ceramic mechanism can be easily adjusted from the bottom to alter the quality of the grind.
