Pierre Bowring

Now Based in New York's Hudson Valley, Pierre discovered his love for glass during his undergraduate studies at Virginia Commonwealth University. Over the last two decades, he has honed his craft at institutions including the Penland School for Craft and the Chrysler Museum of Art, as well as in glass studios throughout the Mid-Atlantic and New York City. Pierre's love of color and experimentation are what drive his practice, but function is key: how an object will be used, shared, gifted and passed down. Bow Glass Works, the upstate New York studio he opened last year, is driven by his love of community—a place in which to make elevated utilitarian objects that bring people together: signature water glasses for a shared meal with friends, a set of celebratory glasses to mark an anniversary, or a vase to showcase garden flowers. Bowring’s studio is housed in a converted barn in the woods, just a short walk from the historic schoolhouse he shares with his family.
