Alice's Dish Rack

$450.00

Twenty years ago, Bob Cannard—

the longtime farmer for Chez Panisse—made this unique wood dish rack for Alice Waters. A skilled woodworker (in addition to being a legendary regenerative farmer), Bob originally created this design for his own kitchen—a minimal construction with a large capacity perfect for dishes and cups, into which a standard half-sheet tray could easily be fitted to catch water. After two decades of constant use, Alice's dish rack is as beautiful and solid as ever—patina and all. With Bob's blessing we've reproduced his design in a gorgeous, solid red oak. This dish rack has been an eternal object of fascination for anyone visiting Alice's house—now it's finally available to a broader audience.

As with all of the pieces in Alice’s Kitchen Collection, 5% of proceeds go toward supporting her non-profit organization, The Edible Schoolyard Project, whose mission is to build and share a national edible education curriculum for pre-kindergarten through high school.

The next delivery is scheduled to arrive by March 2026. Preorder now to secure yours.

Bob Cannard

Bob Cannard

Bob Cannard is a pioneering organic farmer and educator from Sonoma County, California, known for his visionary and unconventional approach to agriculture. Raised around his family's nursery in Kenwood, he rejected the path of mainstream farming and instead championed "natural process" farming, cultivating land in harmony with nature rather than relying on chemicals. He became the original produce supplier for Chez Panisse in Berkeley, establishing decades-long relationships with celebrated chefs and helping set the standard for farm-to-table excellence in the Bay Area. Cannard’s dedication to ecological healing, unorthodox methods, and hands-on teaching has inspired countless students and shaped the landscape of sustainable agriculture throughout Northern California, many of whom have also learned woodworking and carpentry skills in his wood shop. His dish rack design for Alice Waters is one he frequently taught his students to make.
