This sustainably-harvested walnut wood utensil holder was inspired by a small vintage vessel made by Swedish designer Lars Frideen. We wanted a container for our salad servers and other kitchen tools that didn't look too utilitarian, or whose design didn't feel like an afterthought — utensil crocks claim a lot of countertop real estate! The warmth of the caramel-colored wood is offset by a clean, paneled, hexagonal shape, a geometrical complement to the voluptuous silhouette of our serving spoons.
Like our salad servers, this utensil holder is made by hand by craftsman and woodworker Matija Rižner in Northeastern Slovenia. Matija started handcrafting spoons, cutting boards and other kitchenware in 2012 and went on to formally study woodworking and design. He uses smooth organic lines inspired by nature's forms to carve locally grown fruit woods. His workshop overlooks the Drava River and the green hills of the Pohorje Massif.
Please note that due to the handmade nature of this product, each piece expresses minor variations in wood grain and color.
