This indispensable coat was the inspiration for the whole of Permanent Collection. Agnes can be dressed up as a long tuxedo-like jacket or down as a casual layer over jeans or a slip dress. Lined in silk, with pockets, its silhouette – with a lovely raglan sleeve – recalls vintage tailoring while remaining decidedly contemporary. This is the perfect coat that completes every woman’s wardrobe. The Agnes coat is named for the abstract painter Agnes Martin (1912–2004), whose subtly-hued gridded and lined canvases earned her a reputation as a leading figure in the Minimalist movement. Her paintings, statements, and influential writings often reflected an interest in Eastern, especially Taoist, philosophy.
