Based on a vintage knit jacket and inspired by Japanese tailoring, the Eiko is the ideal everyday jacket. Made from a waffle-textured Japanese wool blend with very slight stretch, this piece transforms seamlessly from a more casual, sporty daytime layer to a chic nighttime cover-up. Equipped with generous, functional pockets, a roomy, subtly structured sleeve, a hem that hits well below the hip and a slightly longer sleeve, the Eiko is an easy unisex piece, as flattering on women as it is on men. Because this piece is sized to be unisex, you might find that you are a size smaller than you might normally wear: if in doubt, size down.
The Eiko jacket is named for celebrated art director and costume designer, Eiko Ishioka (1938–2012). Known for her highly original, deeply researched yet fantastical costumes for films such as Francis Ford Coppola’s “Bram Stoker’s Dracula”, she won the Academy Award for Best Costume Design in 1992. Ishioka’s art spanned traditional Japanese Noh theatre design and costuming the 2008 Opening Ceremony of the Olympics in Beijing.
